Codryanka grapes: description of the variety, features of planting and cultivation

Today grapes in our garden plots are as common a plant as apple or cherry. This culture is grown in the European part of Russia, Siberia and the Far East. Therefore, it is not surprising that scientists in the world have already bred 20 thousand grape varieties, of which 3 thousand are grown in the CIS. Various publications regularly list the best of them. The lists always include the Codreanca table grape variety.

Origin of the grape variety Codrianka

The variety was obtained by Soviet scientists in 1985 at the NIViV (National Institute of Viticulture and Winemaking) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Republic of Moldova. Codreanka was bred by crossing the popular varieties Moldova and Marshal.

The variety is often found under the name Black Magic.

Characteristics of the variety

Codryanka is a table grape variety. Berries are dark purple in color, elongated, thin skin, flesh has a simple moderately sweet taste. There are few seeds in the fruit, and they are easily separated. One berry weighs 9-17 g.

Bunches of Codryanka stick well to the vine, even in ripe condition.

A ripe bunch stretches 400–600 g, and with proper care, its weight reaches 1.5 kg. The concentration of basic sugars is 8–19%, the acidity is 6–7 g / l, the tasting score is 8.2 points. The variety is highly resistant to mildew and gray rot; it is also tolerant (hardy) to phylloxera. Withstands cold up to -23 ° С. The bunch holds well on the vine even in ripe state, the grapes retain their presentation for a long time. For this reason, this particular grape variety is so often found in markets and store shelves. Codryanka is an early ripening variety, the growing season lasts 111-118 days. But the berries taste good even before they are fully ripe.

Some clusters of Codryanka can reach a mass of 1.5 kg

The Codrianka variety is grown primarily for fresh consumption. But this grape is also suitable for compotes. But making wine or juice out of it is a bad idea, the sugar content does not reach the required indicators. But it is a very popular variety for making grape vinegar.

The main problem of Codryanka is its tendency to peas. Unfavorable conditions cause a lack of pollination, not all flowers are fertilized in the inflorescence, the grapes degenerate and become small. If the temperature outside in June does not rise above 15aboutSince, and in the morning there are dense fogs, then the probability of getting a harvest of sweet peas instead of grapes is very high. An overloaded bush is also a common cause of peas.

Irrigation is one of the main problems of the Codreanca grape variety

Ways to combat peas:

  • do not forget to thin out the bush to prevent thickening;
  • grow grapes in open, well-ventilated areas;
  • spray the grapes in hot weather, this promotes the adhesion of pollen to the pistils;
  • grow honey plants near grapes: phacelia, mustard, rapeseed to attract bees;
  • fertilize grapes with complexes of trace elements with a high content of boron and zinc;
  • Artificial pollination of grapes helps to cope with the problem.

Features of planting and growing

Only proper planting and proper care will guarantee a bountiful harvest of grapes.

Selection of seedlings

The optimal planting material for Kodryanka is annual seedlings or cuttings of an annual vine. Although, all other things being equal, preference should be given to seedlings. It is recommended to plant them in the fall before the first frost or in early spring before the start of sap flow.

Preparing the landing site

Prepare holes 15 cm in diameter and 15–20 cm deep (on a shovel bayonet). If the length of the roots is greater than the diameter of the planting pit, then they should be cut to the desired size. Bent roots will harm the plant much more. It is recommended to mix the soil from the hole with rotted humus and sand in a ratio of 2: 1: 1.

Planting a seedling

Before planting, it is recommended to soak the roots of the seedling for a day in a solution of a root growth stimulator, for example, in Kornevin. The phytohormones contained in it will increase the seedling's chances of survival.

Today, most grape seedlings in shops and markets are coated with a special wax to reduce transpiration. It does not interfere with engraftment at all, but an attempt to clean it off will greatly harm the plant.

Landing Algorithm:

  1. Place the seedling in the hole.
  2. When planting, the grafting site of the seedling should be 1–1.5 cm above the soil level.
  3. Cover the roots with the potting mix and pour in a bucket of water.
  4. After the moisture has been absorbed, add more soil and compact the soil.
  5. Additionally, cover the seedling with loose earth from above, completely hiding it under a small mound of earth.

Care features

Codryanka compares favorably with its unpretentiousness, nevertheless, like any cultivated plant, it requires compliance with certain agrotechnical measures. Caring for young plants consists in regular watering, weeding, mulching, shelter for the winter. Top dressing is carried out according to the following scheme:

  1. In the spring, before opening the bushes after wintering, the grapes are spilled with a nutrient mixture: 20 g of superphosphate, 10 g of ammonium nitrate and 5 g of potassium salt per 10 liters of water. This is a portion for one plant.
  2. It is necessary to feed the Kodryanka again with this mixture before flowering.
  3. Top dressing with the same solution, but without ammonium nitrate, is needed before the ripening of the bunches.
  4. Potash fertilizers are applied after harvest. They will help the plant through the winter.
  5. Every three years in the fall, the soil is fertilized with manure. It is evenly distributed over the soil surface and dug up.

Codreca does not feel the need for pruning during the first years of life. In the future, all that is required is to remove young shoots after fruiting, which still cannot survive the winter. Also, in the case of overgrowth of the bush, it is corrected by removing dried vines. Codryanka begins to fully bear fruit in the 3rd year of life, but under favorable conditions for the harvest, one can hope for the 2nd year.

Reviews of the grape variety Codryanka

Not so long ago, my wife's friend brought grapes for testing, among the varieties the best, for my taste, turned out to be Codryanka, I could not imagine that such a yummy could grow near Kiev.

Variety Kodryanka is an excellent large-berry variety from early blueberries. I think it should be in every yard.

I have a harvest on the Codryanka. The largest bunch on a 2-year-old bush is 1.3 kg, the lightest is 0.8 kg, mainly 1 kg each. The bush pulled out 10 bunches very easily, plus devoured plenty. The shoots have just begun to ripen. You probably can't do without early trimming and covering with a film on the arcs. Frosts are stable in the 2nd decade of September.

Codryanka has a tendency to peas, especially noticeable in unfavorable years for flowering, but for those who like to tinker, can a minus be turned into a plus? using gibberellin to produce large seedless berries. The yield is high. Resistance to mildew in the variety is 2.5-3.0 points, to frost -22 ° С. Having its holes in agrobiology, in general, a very worthy grape variety for home vineyards

My Kodryanochka, planted with a green seedling, bloomed for the 3rd summer, but only in August! Although the vine is more powerful every year. In the difficult season of summer 2016, I did not notice a single sore on her.

Codryanka is one of the most popular table grape varieties in Russia. Which is not surprising at all, since it has excellent taste, high yield, and is also early maturing.
